Check out our mini-interviews with Jojo, Ana, Arthur and the other burn riders here.
The season may officially be over, but that doesn't mean we can't still have snowy fun in the sun. We're joining with some wonderful people to sponsor this year's Kumi Yama Ride For Japan, which takes place from July 1-3 at Les Deux Alpes, France.
The event will see both pros and amateurs compete on the slopes over two days, both snowboarders and freeskiers, with one day for the pros and one day for amateurs. The competition style will be fitting - Kamikaze, where riders will compete against each other in teams of three. The slopestyle course has also been freshened up with some neat Japan-inspired features including a torri, a gong and a temple. check our 3d drawing of the slopestyle set up below!:
The cream of Japanese talent will also be present and competing, including none other than Kazu Kokubo, who will be joined from other riders from across the whole globe. This year Kumi Yama is focusing completely on slopestyle, with no superpipe event. Both snowboarding and freeski will firstly have teams compete in three jam sessions in order to qualify for the final round.
Then each team that qualified will compete, battle-style in a fight to the death. Well, perhaps not to the death, but certainly until a winner is declared. The final awards ceremony and prizegiving will take place in Les Deux Alpes at "Place d I'OT" with sake on offer later, of course. All profits from drinks will be donated to Japanese disaster victims.
Here's a complete list of the burn riders who will be taking to the slopes. Good luck guys!
